A growing number of participants are getting involved in the “16 Days of Activism” Campaign, led by the project partners: Association “Parallel-Silistra”, Bulgaria; Association “Creativa”, Spain; European Institute “For Citizens”, Portugal; and “Bosco Angimbe” Association, Italy. These NGOs are currently implementing the BeActive project funded by Erasmus+.
The campaign offers local events in Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, and Portugal, reaching at least 200 direct participants and 220 online followers. It aims to unite young people and allow them to personally participate and express their opinions in the democratic process at the local, national, or European level. It also seeks to foster knowledge of European values and the skills to defend them.
On the project’s website, you can read more about the “Clean and Green” initiative, in which teachers and staff from the Silistra Branch of Ruse University participated in the first edition by cleaning the area around the Health Trail in Silistra. A little later, the second edition of the campaign event took place with the participation of local youth from the Sitovo municipality, who, through their voluntary work, ensured a healthier and more beautiful environment in the village of Iskra.
The city of Tutrakan is another location of the youth campaign within the BeActive project, where young volunteers organized informational events to commemorate Europe Day, quite similar to the campaign event at the Silistra Branch of Ruse University.
The ’16 Days Activism’ campaign allows young people to realize their ideas for protecting the environment and biodiversity, participating in decision-making processes regarding local issues, and developing an understanding of sustainability, cultural collaboration, and European values. The series of national events entirely depends on the creative imagination of the young participants in the project and their ability to attract their peers to participate.
The campaign is coordinated by 16 young people from the four Partner organizations, trained in promoting youth activity during a training camp in Sicily at the end of April. They, in turn, train 60 of their peers, gradually expanding the circle of active young people in their countries.
The campaign also has its guide – the ’16 Days of Activism – Guide to National Actions and Events’, which has already been published in English on the project’s website. It provides detailed information on the planning and promotion steps of youth campaigns and sample activities. The goal is for the campaign to serve as a handbook for those working with youth.
