Forty children from different ethnic groups from the village of Alekovo and the town of Silistra participated together in the second interactive training on child rights on March 22nd, 2014. The event was dedicated to the European Week Against Racism and Discrimination, held annually between 15th and 23rd March.
The second lesson was devoted to the theme “All children have equal rights and all are entitled to protection from discrimination.” Was applied the methodology for innovative training in mixed ethnic groups, which consists in learning through play. The games are often used in human rights trainings because they promote communication between participants, bridging the language gaps and fostering tolerance. The plan of the classroom level activity can be found here.
Eight mothers of children from the village of Alekovo also participated in the event. Some of them had brought the smaller children, who enjoyed watching their siblings while drawing themselves and their families.
The second part of the event was held outdoors in the Danube Park. The main task of the activities in the park was to build trust between the children. Therefore teacher Vania Iankova selected appropriate games that are both safe and interesting for children. After the more physically active part, the training had a quiet ending part, during which children were seated in a circle around the teacher and were encouraged to share their experiences.
